2016 Peter Hallman Memorial Tournament – June 24-26 – St Clements Ball Park – St Clements ON.

The Peter Hallman Memorial Tournament Committee is pleased to announce the teams that will be competing in the 2016 tournament.

But first some background. Last summer we didn’t host the tournament at Peter Hallman Ball Yard. The ISF and PanAm games created some scheduling issues for all tournament operators.

This summer we had to move our date, but there was no date that would suit both the City of Kitchener and our needs and the needs of the ISC teams that wished to qualify for the 2017 ISCs in Quad Cities.

It looked grim for a period but we came up with a solution that suits everyone….we hope. We moved the date to the 24th-25th-26th of June and we moved the venue to St Clements ball park; ten minutes north of Waterloo.

Last year when JIm Hallman decided to withdraw from competing at the highest level of ISC Competition he made a personal and financial decision to support grass roots fastpitch softball in the Kitchener Waterloo area. That included being a supporter of a major men’s tournament here in the Waterloo Region and helping us with organizing what we hope will be one of the best fastpitch tournaments in Ontario this year.

The Hallman Family will support the Peter Hallman Memorial Tournament both as a sponsor and as a committee member.  JIm and Sue are on the food and beverage committee for the St. Clements tournament this June.

The Hallman family will also support KW Minor softball with uniforms for several teams. The Hallman Twins name will continue at a youth level. Jim has taken a position with Kitchener Fastball Promotions as well, serving as treasurer. KFP has been the parent body for many national and international tournaments and will continue to seek and support fastpitch softball. KFP members are having meetings and planning a great weekend of fastpitch softball for the June 24 25 26th weekend here in the Waterloo Region

The tournament committee has ten teams in the open division including the top ranked Toronto Gators, NY Gremlins, Scarborough Force, and the 2015 ISC Champion Hill United. The Kitchener Hallman Cubs are the host club. They eliminated the Hallman Twins from the ISC championship in South Bend last summer.

Local teams include the Elmira Expos, who eliminated the Force from last years ISC tournament in South Bend. The Shakespeare Falcons, the Wiarton Nationals, (the 2015 ISC II champion) and the Toronto Batmen round out the Ontario entries. The North East Drillers from Pennsylvania complete the roster of ten teams.

A four team U21 (Junior) tournament will be held on the 3rd St Clements diamond. Teams from Tavistock, New Hamburg, Stratford and Owen Sound will compete over the weekend for the U21 title.

A list of local hotels is attached. The Heidelberg Hotel is the least expensive, and closest to the diamonds. There are two hotels located at the famous St Jacobs Market, the Marriott and the Hilton. They are a short ten minutes from the park. In Waterloo the Wilfrid Laurier Hotel, where you can book a suite of 5 bedrooms for $160 a night. That is a 15 to 20 minute drive to the park and in Kitchener we have the Radisson at Fairway Road which is offering a good rate, but a longer drive to St Clements.

Teams, players, fans, and family will be happily welcomed at any of these hotels.

The tournament is in support of “Smart Start to Reading…”
