December 13, 2016 – Saginaw, MI – The International Softball Congress is pleased to announce that it will be sponsoring three boys fastpitch softball championship tournaments on the weekend of July 21-23 in Saginaw, Michigan.

The ISC Developmental Championship Tournaments in the U14, U16 and U18 age groups marks a return for the ISC in sponsoring stand-alone youth events separate from the annual ISC World Tournament.

“With the outstanding boy’s fastpitch programs in Munger and Vasser, as well as the history of successful ISC developmental tournaments in Frankenmuth, this is the ideal area to hold these tournaments,” says ISC Executive Director Larry Fisher. Saginaw is 10-15 minutes from Frankenmuth and was the host of the 1981 ISC World Tournament.

“We’ve selected this weekend because there’s minimal conflict with any of the Ontario provincial events in these age groups, so we’d really like to see Ontario teams come and compete for an ISC championship,” added Fisher.

More information will be forthcoming as the committee of Tom Stasik, Del Benson, Don Petro and Pete Bouvy work out the details in the coming weeks.

The ISC is also planning a U21 Championship as part of the 2017 ISC World Tournament being held in Grand Rapids, MI., August 12-19.

June 1, 2016 – Mississauga, Ontario – The ISC Network is pleased to welcome Kris Abbott to the broadcast team for the 2016 ISC World Tournament being held in Quad Cities, IA-IL.

“We’re thrilled to have a broadcaster like Kris join us on the ISC Network team,” says co-producer Blair Setford. “Kris comes from a fastball family and we’re entirely confident he’ll make his mark on the broadcast program that is already known as the voice of men’s fastball.”

Abbott, 33, is a native of Newfoundland and grew up on and around the fastball diamonds, including spending plenty of time watching his father, Newfoundand Hall of Famer Keith Abbott and his uncle, ISC Hall of Famer Colin Abbott. Kris began playing hockey and softball at a young age and went on to represent his province in both sports at an elite level.

“The ISC World Tournament is the pinnacle of our sport. I want to thank Blair and the team at the ISC Network for giving me this opportunity – it’s an honour and a thrill,” says Abbott. “While I have never quite had the eye or power of my Hall of Fame uncle, I have a deep rooted respect and passion for the ISC and hope to put my own unique mark on its history. I have met some of the best people I know through fastball, including close friends and future Hall of Famers like Jason Hill and Stephen Mullaley, who have been teammates of mine since childhood.”

Currently a play-by-play commentator and producer for Eastlink TV in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Abbott is the voice of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Friday night broadcasts and also covers Canadian university hockey, Nova Scotia major midget hockey, and various other sporting events on Eastlink. “A big thank you to Brett and Michael Smith at Eastlink for allowing me time away in August to chase my personal passion of world-class fastball before ducking back inside cold Canadian hockey arenas for the year,” added Abbott.

In 2014, he called several games from the Softball Canada Senior Men’s Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI and is slated to cover this year’s inaugural ISC qualifier in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The ISC Network will stream 25 games in high definition from the 2016 ISC World Tournament in Moline, Illinois along with the annual ISC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

May 2-8, 2016 is Mental Health Week in Canada. This serious, life-altering condition affects one in five Canadians and far too often, people suffer in silence, unwilling to ask for help because of the stigma around mental health problems.

The Ballpark Broadcasting/ISC Network team is producing a public service video this summer to support good mental health initiatives.

We need your help.

When your team is together at the park, use your phone or an iPad to take a video of your team saying: TRUST YOUR TEAMMATES!

Email the clip to Blair Setford and your team will be included in the PSA video to be debuted during the ISC World Tournament in August.

Our game of fastball is a team game. We need to encourage any teammates who may be suffering in silence to trust that asking for help means wanting to make positive changes. To take steps towards new mental health goals.

Getting help is part of recovery.

We look forward to seeing contributions from across North America and hopefully from around the world!
