The Moline Softball Association originated in the small town of Moline Mi.  Moline is 20 miles south of Grand Rapids Michigan.

Organized Fast Pitch softball has been played in Moline since the late 1950’s.  The ladies Garden Club of Moline thought the community needed something for the people to do together.  The local elementary school had a softball diamond outback and that is where Moline Softball began.

In the early 1960’s the Moline Softball Association was formed to take over managing the league from the garden club. George Schrotenboer was the first President.  There are currently 10 board members and their wives that care for the maintenance, run the concession stand or canteen as it is known.  Each board member serves a 3 year term and attends about 3-5 meetings a year.  Moline Softball is a non profit organization dedicated to providing softball and recreation to the surrounding communities.

Moline has always had a very strong presence in fast pitch softball in the West Michigan area.  It continues to be one of the strongest fast pitch leagues in West Michigan.  Our most competitive Thursday night league has expanded to the point that we now play in two locations; Moline and Ada.  We could no longer accommodate every team in our Moline location.

We play softball four nights a week, starting the third full week of May and ending the end of August.  There are a variety of leagues in Moline;

Mondays we have a men’s slow pitch church league along with a girl’s high school summer instructional league.

Tuesdays are reserved for a women’s slow pitch league and the local Casino has an employee co-ed softball league.

Wednesday’s and Thursday’s are men’s fast pitch nights.  Our Wednesday league is for beginners and and old timers who just want to keep playing.  The age of the players in our Wed night league ranges from 15 to 65 and we currently have 10 teams in this league.  Our focus for this league is to attract younger new players to the game of fast pitch and hopefully give them the bug to want to play fast pitch softball after they graduate from high school baseball.

Thursday night is our most competitive teams with faster pitching and more experienced players that are some of the best in the area.  This league will have 12 teams this year.

This summer there will b 38 different teams playing ball in Moline.  Moline Softball Association will host many other tournaments this summer.  We will be hosting the Michigan Class B Men’s Fast Pitch State Championship Final tournament, We will also host a Girl’s 10-14 fast pitch tournament and the local little leagues All-Star games under the lights for our future ball players.

There are many things going on up to Moline and it takes many people giving many, many hours of their time to make it all happen.  We could not do it without their help.

 We are looking forward to the Men’s Fast Pitch World Tournament in Rockford Michigan this summer.  The fast pitch community here enjoys playing as well as watching the game we love.

If you are interested in playing fast pitch or would like some information you can visit our website at www.molinesoftball.com and see some of the events we are hosting and check out our leagues.  Our address if you want to come visit is 1148 144th Moline Michigan 49335 ( behind the old elementary school)  You can also contact Ken Ritz at 616 430-4848.
