Following our spotlight on Jeff Lewis’s record-setting .800 batting average, we return to the circle to celebrate one of the most electric, dominant left-handers in fastpitch softball history: Mike Piechnik.
Known affectionately across the game as “Peaches,” the Victoria, BC native was a towering presence on the rubber for nearly a quarter-century from 1985 to 2008. Among a career filled with accolades, Piechnik achieved the ultimate pitching milestone more times than anyone in history, holding the all-time record for the most Perfect Games in ISC World Tournament history (4).
Four Masterpieces of Perfection
Retiring a lineup 21 consecutive times without allowing a single runner to reach base is fastpitch’s rarest achievement. Piechnik achieved perfection four separate times across three different decades:
- 1985 – Madison, WI (The Farm)
- 1993 – Sioux City, IA
- 1998 – Philadelphia, PA
- 2002 – Waterloo, ON
His first perfect game in 1985 announced his arrival as a global superstar. Over the next 23 years, his untouchable rise ball and relentless tempo kept batters flailing.
A Hall of Fame Resume
Piechnik’s record four perfect games were just the crown jewel of an incredible ISC portfolio:
- 6 Career ISC No-Hitters: Ranks 2nd all-time in tournament history, behind only Peter Meredith (8).
- 48 All-Time ISC Wins: Ranks 6th all-time on the ISC victory leaderboard.
- 9-Time ISC All-World Selection: Recognized as an elite pitcher across four different decades.
- ISC Hall of Fame Inductee: Honored in 2011 for his lasting legacy on the game.
Whether pitching in high-stakes World Championships or delivering untouchable performances on hot August afternoons, Mike “Peaches” Piechnik set a standard for left-handed dominance that remains unmatched in the ISC record books.
