The 1980s represent a transformative era in the history of the International Softball Congress. It was a decade defined by the rise of legendary powerhouses, the emergence of iconic pitchers who could dominate a weekend single-handedly, and athletes who redefined the limits of the sport.
As we look back on the history of the ISC, we are inviting our community to help us identify the definitive “Best of the Decade.” We are officially opening the Fan Vote to select the Player, Pitcher, and Team of the 1980s.
Why the 1980s?
For many long-time fans and historians of the game, the 80s was a period of incredible growth and intense competition. The decade saw the transition of the sport into a faster, more powerful version of itself. From the chalk lines of the World Tournament to the local parks where these legends built their reputations, the 80s provided some of the most memorable moments in fastpitch history.
The Categories
We are asking fans to submit their choices in three distinct categories:
- Player of the Decade: Who was the most consistent threat at the plate or the most reliable defender in the field? We are looking for the individual whose overall impact on the game defined the era.
- Pitcher of the Decade: The 80s featured a roster of hurlers who are still talked about in hushed tones today. Which pitcher was the most feared when they stepped into the circle?
- Team of the Decade: Some organizations built dynasties during this time, capturing multiple titles and setting the standard for excellence. Which squad stands above the rest?
How to Participate
The voting process is simple and open to all ISC enthusiasts. Your input is vital in ensuring that the history of our sport is recorded accurately and that the contributions of these athletes are properly recognized.
