Friday Recap: 2025 ISC Canada East Qualifier

The diamonds at Keterson Park in Mitchell, Ontario, were packed with elite fastpitch action on Friday afternoon and evening as the 2026 ISC Canada East Qualifier officially got underway. Teams across multiple divisions battled for early tournament momentum under the lights.

Below is the recap of Friday’s games, tracing how the drama unfolded on the diamond.

White Division

Hill United Chiefs 8, Toronto Batmen 1 (4:00 PM)

The Hill United Chiefs opened their tournament by showcasing an explosive offense against the Toronto Batmen. After two scoreless innings to start the contest, the Chiefs broke the ice in the bottom of the third, crossing the plate three times to take a 3-0 lead. They didn’t slow down, tacking on two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. The Batmen managed to spoil the shutout in the top of the sixth inning by scoring their lone run, but Hill United quickly answered with two final runs in the bottom half of the frame to cap off the 8-1 victory. Blake Hunter stood out as the top performer for the Chiefs, blasting a home run and driving in three runs during a 1-for-3 performance at the plate.

NorthEast Drillers 1, Bear Creek Gremlins 0 (6:30 PM)

Fans were treated to a masterclass in pitching as the NorthEast Drillers edged out the Bear Creek Gremlins in a razor-thin 1-0 shutout. Hits and baserunners were nearly impossible to come by as both starting pitchers dominated from the first pitch. The definition of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Drillers manufactured a single run, which proved to be all they needed. The Gremlins fought hard to answer back, but the Drillers’ pitching staff slammed the door across the final three frames. Huemul Mata took top performer honors by driving in the game’s only run with a double, while also delivering a spectacular performance in the circle.

  • Winning Pitcher: Huemul Mata earned the victory with 4.0 scoreless innings, scattering 2 hits, striking out 3 and walking 3. Nahuel Saenz secured the shutout with 3.0 perfect innings of relief, striking out 3 without giving up a hit or a walk.

JDT First Energy 3, Bear Creek Express 1 (9:00 PM)

The late-night White Division matchup delivered plenty of late-game drama as JDT First Energy rallied to defeat the Bear Creek Express 3-1. For the first three innings, the game remained a tense, scoreless stalemate. JDT First Energy finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth, striking for three runs to establish a 3-0 lead. The Express refused to go quietly, putting together a fierce rally in the top of the sixth inning to score two runs and pull within a single run. However, JDT First Energy held firm in the seventh to secure the narrow win. Jonathan Lynch was the top performer for JDT First Energy, finishing 2-for-2 with a triple, a run scored, and an intentional walk.

  • Winning Pitcher: Devon McCullough earned the win in relief, throwing 1.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 runs (2 earned), striking out 3 and walking 2. Yan Carlos Gonzalez started and pitched 5.0 stellar innings, giving up just 1 hit and 0 runs, striking out 12 and walking 2.
  • Losing Pitcher: Liam Potts absorbed the loss after a complete 5.0 innings of work, giving up 5 hits, 3 runs (0 earned), striking out 6 and walking 2. Ty Sebastian pitched 1.0 inning of perfect relief, striking out 2.

Red Division

St. Thomas Elgins 4, Sebringville Sting 0 (5:00 PM)

The St. Thomas Elgins relied on stellar pitching and a timely power surge to defeat Sebringville Sting 180 by a score of 4-0. Both teams traded zeroes through the first four frames as the pitchers dictated the tempo. The deadlock was finally broken in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Elgins exploded for four runs, highlighted by a big fly from Mitch Roy. Outfielder Mitch Roy led the charge as the top performer, going 1-for-2 with that home run, two runs scored, two RBIs, and two walks.

  • Winning Pitcher: Alex Baillargeon went the distance for a 7.0-inning complete-game shutout, allowing 5 hits, 0 runs, striking out 10 and walking 3.
  • Losing Pitcher: Matt Davis took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up 5 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), striking out 2 and walking 4. Brett Pfeifer threw 1.2 innings of hitless relief, allowing 0 runs, striking out 1 and walking 1.

New Hamburg Mustangs 5, Puslinch Kodiaks 0 (5:00 PM)

The New Hamburg Mustangs 180 wasted zero time asserting themselves against the Puslinch Kodiaks 180, marching to a 5-0 victory. New Hamburg struck immediately in the bottom of the first inning, putting up a five-spot on the scoreboard. That single inning proved to be all the scoring the game would see, as both teams put up zeroes for the remaining six frames. Sam Diamond anchored the early offense as the top performer, launching a spectacular grand slam to finish 1-for-3 with four RBIs.

  • Winning Pitcher: Jared Vosper turned in a complete-game masterpiece, throwing 7.0 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 runs, striking out 8 and walking 1.
  • Losing Pitcher: Mac Fischer pitched all 6.0 innings for Puslinch, allowing 8 hits, 5 runs (5 earned), striking out 8 and walking 4.

Waterdown Hammer 7, Walton Brewers 0 (7:00 PM)

The Waterdown Hammer offense turned in a clinical performance to secure a comfortable 7-0 win over the Walton Brewers. Waterdown got on the board early with a run in the top of the second inning. They added to their cushion in the fourth with three more runs, before putting the game completely out of reach with another three-run surge in the top of the fifth. Andrew Kelly earned top performer honors by going 2-for-3 with a home run and a game-high five RBIs.

  • Winning Pitcher: Kirk Santala dominated over 5.0 innings, firing a 1-hit shutout, striking out 9 and walking 2.
  • Losing Pitcher: Kyle Fry took the loss, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing 9 hits, 7 runs (4 earned), striking out 3 and walking 0. Tim Kellar threw 1.0 inning of hitless relief, walking 1 and striking out 3.

Ohsweken Redmen 10, Highgate Rock 0 (7:00 PM)

The 2026 ISC Canada East Qualifier witnessed a lopsided affair as the Ohsweken Redmen dismantled Highgate Rock with a commanding 10–0 victory.

The Redmen’s offense wasted no time, setting the tone early and maintaining relentless pressure throughout the five-inning contest. After a scoreless first inning, the Redmen exploded for three runs in the second and followed up with a massive seven-run third inning to put the game out of reach.

Key Performers
Offensive Powerhouse: The Redmen tallied 10 hits in total. Standout performances included Joey Doxtator, who drove in 3 runs, while Matej Rysavy and Travis Jones both contributed key home runs.

Pitching Dominance: The combined effort of Clayton Robinson and Mike Roote silenced the Highgate offense. Robinson worked 3.0 innings of one-hit ball with 5 strikeouts, and Roote closed out the final 2.0 innings, allowing only 2 hits and adding 4 more strikeouts to hold Highgate to 0 runs on 3 total hits.

Despite a valiant effort from Highgate Rock, they were unable to find an answer for the Redmen’s pitching staff or stop their potent lineup, ultimately falling in five innings.

Toronto Batmen U23 3, Kingston Axemen 1 (9:00 PM)

In a highly competitive matchup, the Toronto Batmen U23 squad ground out a tight 3-1 victory over the Kingston Axemen. The Axemen struck first blood, scratching across a run in the bottom of the second inning. The Batmen U23 answered back in the top of the fourth to tie things up at 1-1, and then seized control in the top of the sixth by pushing two critical runs across the plate. Alex Mcgilvary paced the offense as the top performer, going 2-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI, a walk, and two stolen bases to spark the comeback.

  • Winning Pitcher: Dale Schweyer went the distance with a 7.0-inning complete game, giving up just 2 hits and 1 run (1 earned) while racking up 13 strikeouts and walking 1.
  • Losing Pitcher: Joran Graham took the loss despite a strong effort, throwing 7.0 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 runs (3 earned), striking out 10 and walking 2.

Townsend Tide 2, Georgian Bay Giants 1 (9:00 PM)

The final Red Division game of the night was an absolute nail-biter, with the Townsend Tide squeaking out a 2-1 win over the Georgian Bay Giants 180. The Tide jumped out to an early advantage, striking for two runs in the bottom of the first inning. From there, a fierce pitching duel took over, keeping both offenses completely quiet. The Giants made things incredibly tense in the top of the seventh, rallying to score a run and threaten a comeback, but the Tide managed to secure the final out and hold on for the win. Tide pitcher Will Schlotzhauer was named top performer for his clutch control under pressure.
